Doing what he does best...

Ruckus sleeping. We use crib mattresses as beds for the dogs. He had a lazy day yesterday. Today he turns 9 months old. Hubby and I are still amazed every single day by how huge he is.

Ruckus - Almost 9 months old

Ruckus and I went to the dog park today. We were the only ones there and he was pretty nervous with all of the pup smells around. After that we went to the pet store for some treats.

Ruckus turns 9 months old this week. I can't tell you how much he weighs because my scale doesn't go high enough for DH and Ruckus..lol. I'm guessing between 110 and 120 lbs. He is bigger then Sadie and Bella now.

Sorry I don't update much, but honestly Ruckus hates having his picture taken. Everytime I get the camera out at home he turns his back or leaves the room.

Update on Ruckus

Wanted to share a few pictures of Ruckus. He is 5 1/2 months old now and weighs 70 lbs. I also wanted to let you guys know that DH stole him from me!!! He was supposed to be my mother's day present, but he is DH's spoiled baby! If DH wakes up in the middle of the night, he will go get Ruckus out of his cage so he can pet him. He spoils him, feeds him right from the counter. and if anything gets destroyed DH says "he is just a baby" Dh calls him Little Baby Ruckus or Sweet Baby Ruckus.

First I have to confess that I do not call him Ruckus. I lovingly call him $hithead. Like when I look out and see he has eaten yet another one of my new perennials, or when he body slams himself against the back door to get in. Or when he chewed a hole in my carpet. Or when peed on the couch. I could go on and on. I adore him though and I call him that in a very loving manner.

He is pretty much house broken as long as we let him out regularly (thank you peas for your advice) otherwise he will sneak downstairs and pee on the ceramic tile at the bottom of the steps.

Sadie has apparently decided that she is done raising him and will only play with him occasionally. He will beg Bella to play and if she refuses he will just chew on her and force her to play the "lets chew on each others face" game. I just don't understand how that can be enjoyable for them.

DH might have to get a 2nd job to pay the food bill. Sadie and Bella get 4 cups of food each per day. Ruckus eats 4 cups at a meal and gets this 3-5 times a day. My vet said to feed him as many times a day as he wants, just to allow an hour or two between feedings and as long as he isn't fat. He is growing so fast and expends so much energy, he needs it.

I'm not sure if you can tell in the pics or not, but he isn't fixed. It is recommended that you wait until a Dane is 8 months old to fix them or it can affect their growth. Also, he has an undescended testicle and the vet said they have to open him up and find it or it could turn cancerous. We have decided that since he will already be opened up, we are going to have his stomach tacked so that we won't have to worry about him ever getting bloat.

He is the sweetest, goofiest, most loving dog I have ever met. I love him so much and I just don't know what I will do if something happens to him.

I only have 2 complaints. 1. He pees when he gets excited. He will either pee in one spot, or he will run around leaving a wiggly stream on the carpet behind him. Vet says he should grow out of that by the time he is 6 months old, I will freak if he doesn't.

#2. I swear his paws weigh about 10 lbs each. DH usually gets up before I do and Ruckus loves to run in and jump up on the side of the bed...you know ... where my face is? It is like getting punched in the face with his ginormous paws. Again, I mutter $hithead and then get up.

I also want to really get him his AKC CGC certificate so that he can become a therapy dog. We have just started to research that.

Ruckus Swimming

Ruckus is getting used to water. He keeps trying to climb in the pool and loves to be thrown in. He is getting too heavy for me to pick up so hubby throws him in.

Ruckus 19 week old video

In the Video, the Blue Dane (Bella) is biting the B&W dog's (sadie) ankles. Bella is a peace maker and she does this to try to get Sadie to stop playing. :)

Ruckus teaches me about gardening

We put in a new perennial flower bed this year. Ruckus had surprised me and stayed out of it...until yesterday!

I had been waiting for this flower to bloom. Apparently Ruckus was keeping on eye on it too. Yesterday the flowers started to open and apparently that meant they were a peak eating season for him.

This flower wasn't really good, it just got stepped on so Ruckus could munch on the one behind it. Also Ruckus wants to point out that soaker hose. He says those are the best hoses to chew on because they help with teething and the cool water soothes the gums in the process.

My Lilley flowers are not only beautiful but Yummy too apparently.

Ruckus thinks that Daylillies are very comfortable to lay on and take a nap. Also, he says if you wake up and are hungry, they are great for snacking on too.

Needless to say I spent yesterday evening putting up an ugly fence around my beautiful flower bed to keep the monster out.

Big Feet!

Ruckus needs to grow into his feet! He is almost 5 months old now and his feet are as big as Sadie's and Bella's feet!

Ruckus meets Diesel

The Dane is this photo is NOT Sadie. This is Diesel. He belongs to my friend Kaleb (pictured) who is a Tech at my Vet's office. Diesel is a 3 year old 165 lb male Harlequin.

About 4 years ago I boarded Sadie at my Vets while we were on vacation. She is an aggressive dog and Kaleb had to take care of her. Amazingly he still had all his fingers when we picked her up, but he saw her and decided he wanted a Harlequin Dane too.

Kaleb found Diesel and the cool thing is, Sadie and Diesel both have 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye, but on Diesel they are opposite sides from Sadie.

Kaleb brought Diesel out into the waiting room and my youngest son looked at him confused and said "Sadie?"..lol.

Ruckus is rotten!

Ruckus has a really bad habit of sitting on the other dogs. Usually he straddles Sadies neck with his back legs and then reaches over her head and trys to take her toys away.

Bella and Ruckus are finally friends

Ruckus finally quit trying to chew on Bella all the time. She enjoys playing with him now.

Ears Gone Wild!

For the past week Ruckus' ears are just goofy. They are huge and floppy and are always flipped inside out. He also scruntches the top of his head and his ears stand up.

12 week update

I weighed Ruckus this morning. 32 lbs. He was 12.5 when we got him 5 weeks ago. He can't walk under the coffee table anymore. He is now eating 8 cups of food a day! Yikes.

At the dog park

Ruckus bugged this little dog until he ended up putting Ruckus in his place.

Bella usually doesn't go in the water. She would only put her front feet in because the ground was uneven. She ended up sitting down on that rock with her body in the water.

We didn't expect anyone to be at the swimming area today and were surprised to find it packed. Sadie wasn't allowed to take her muzzle off because she bites. I came home and ordered her a basket muzzle.

8 Weeks feeling a little better.

The first few days home from the hospital. Ruckus was afraid to stray from me more then 2 or 3 feet. Sometimes he was brave enough to walk far enough to see Sadie. He was glued to my side for a few weeks. He would always want me to pick him up and if I didn't he would sit on my feet.

Ruckus and Parvo - Home from the hospital

This is Ruckus at 8 weeks old. These were taken the day he came home from the hospital. We found out the day after we adopted him that he had Parvo. We were so lucky to find out early. Ruckus was in the hospital for a few days. He was very sick and about 8 lbs under weight.

When he came he had to be on antibiotics for another 2 weeks for the Parvo and also for a parasite he had.

The day we brought Ruckus home

Ruckus was 7 1/2 weeks old and weighed 12.5 lbs.

We adopted Ruckus from a Great Dane Rescue in Michigan. We live in Ohio. We found him on Petfinder. My husband and I drove 13 hours round trip to adopt Ruckus. I would have driven to California to adopt him if I had to. :)
